The SofTrack® System

The Base - The SofTrak turf system is constructed over a two-layer flex base that provides stable support, drains quickly, and won’t crack from freezing or expanding soils. The putting surface can even be designed with contours and undulations for uphill, downhill, and breaking putts.

The Turf - SofTrak turf is the only synthetic turf manufactured from fibers specifically designed to simulate the softness, texture, density, and color of natural bent grass. This creates a putting surface that is totally realistic and performs just like a natural bent grass putting green. We invite you to compare SofTrak with the turf used by our competitors, which is made from common “off-the-shelf” synthetic fibers that were designed for football, soccer, or tennis surfaces, not putting greens.

The In-fill system - The SofTrak® system integrates a unique in-fill system called RQS-2000 into the fibers of the turf to create a natural feel and softness in the putting surface. Our competitors use ordinary sand as an in-fill, which causes the putting surface to compact and harden over time. RQS-2000 is an exclusive product made from specially formulated round quartz, and is designed to keep the putting surface soft. The in-fill system also incorporates SofTrak Top Dressing, our unique blend of colored acrylic-coated quartz that give SofTrak greens a deep, rich luster that others can't match.

Why SofTrak?

Each putting green is designed to fit the site and satisfy the client’s specifications. The installation process is an exacting one resulting in a satisfied customer every time.

It's more than a Surface. It's a System

The SofTrak system was created to reproduce a real golf course green in every way:

1. We begin by excavating and compacting the site and overlaying a special geotextile fabric to help stabilize the sub-base.

2. We construct a two-layer, compacted crushed stone flex-base and compact it completely.

3. We contour the surface to your specifications. The base is now ready for the SofTrak™ turf to be placed, cut, and shaped as desired.

4. We add a proprietary blend of cleaned and specially-sized round silica granules.

5. We apply our proprietary colored top-dressing, which gives the green its unique realistic appearance. SofTrak's color is closer to the color of true grass than any other artificial fiber.

6. We adjust the speed of the green to your specifications by rolling it. We can even match the speed of the greens at your favorite club.

Three ingredients that make SofTrak surfaces vastly superior:

1. The Base - The SofTrak turf system is constructed over a two-layer flex base that provides stable support, drains quickly, and won’t crack from freezing or expanding soils. The putting surface can even be designed with contours and undulations for uphill, downhill, and breaking putts.

2. The Turf - SofTrak turf uses fibers specifically designed to simulate the softness, texture, density, and color of natural bent-grass. SofTrak turf is manufactured to precise specifications in order to achieve optimum pile height and density to create a putting surface that is truly realistic and performs just like a natural bent-grass putting green. The turf used by our competitors is made from common “off-the-shelf” synthetic fibers designed for action sport surfaces (football, soccer, tennis), not putting greens.

3. The In-Fill System - Only the SofTrak system integrates RQS-2000 into the fibers of the turf to create a natural feel and softness in the putting surface. Competitors use ordinary sand as an in-fill, which causes the putting surface to compact and harden over time. RQS-2000 is made from a specially-formulated, size-graded round quartz and is designed to keep the putting surface soft. The in-fill system also incorporates SofTrak Top Dressing, a unique blend of colored acrylic-coated quartz that gives your green the deep rich luster only SofTrak greens can deliver.

Two key SofTrak Advantages

Superior Performance - Unlike most artificial surfaces, a SofTrak green will actually hold a shot, just like a natural grass green! When chipping onto the green, the ball will actually check up. With backspin, you can even make a ball stop or back up. It’s amazing! But the most unbelievable thing about a SofTrak green is the way a ball rolls on it, and this you simply have to see to believe. The ball will roll true and at an even pace, at fast or slow stimp speeds. Because of its low maintenance and realistic performance, the SofTrak system is actually preferred for use in putting greens at some commercial golf courses instead of natural grass!

Low Maintenance - A SofTrak putting green is the perfect solution for any golfer who doesn’t have much time. In the convenience of your own backyard, you can practice your short game whenever you want, plus have a lot of fun with friends and family. You won’t have to spend all your time mowing, watering, and fertilizing, and you won’t have to sacrifice performance to have a low-maintenance putting green at your home.

FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS

How is it built?

We start by excavating and compacting the site. Then we add a two layer compacted crushed stone flex-base. We shape and contour the surface to your specifications. Next we place the turf and add a special blend of cleaned and size graded rounded quartz silica. We then broom the quartz silica into the turf with a specialized power broom from Germany. This causes the fibers to stand upright, relax and blossom. Finally we apply a combination of black and green top-dressing sand, which gives the green a realistic appearance. Our last step is to adjust the speed of the green by rolling it.

What is it made of?

The yarns are an advanced generation of polypropylene fibers with a dual tufted polyurethane backing. It resists all forms of rot, mildew and bacteria. It will not degrade due to standing or flowing water and resists chemicals and heat.

How much does a SofTrak green cost?

A SofTrak Putting Green generally costs between $12 and $15 per square foot. The prices vary based on size and other site-specific factors. Other factors include the accessibility of the site to our equipment and materials, the need for significant grading and sodding, and the addition of retaining walls or other landscaping. Green prices for residential applications typically run between $3,000 and $15,000. Of course, a SofTrak putting green improves your landscape with a fun and functional area -- a smart investment!

How long will it last?

The materials used in our SofTrak putting greens are made from tough polypropylene fibers and are designed to resist the harmful effects of rain, snow, ice, and sun. With proper and regular maintenance (once or twice a year), your green can last as long as 15 years or more.

How does your SofTrak putting green compare to a real natural grass putting green?

Our greens putt, bounce, and react to a shot very much like a natural bent grass green. The ball can even check up! In fact, the SofTrak system is so pure that several members of the PGA Tour, including Fred Couples, Rich Beem, Steve Flesch, and Bruce Lietske, have chosen it over real bent grass greens to avoid the maintenance headaches. Obviously, these guys would not compromise on their practice surface no matter what the cost.

At what speeds do SofTrak Greens roll?

Our greens can be installed to roll at any speed desired by the client. The speeds can be adjusted at any time just by brushing or rolling the green. Most greens are set based on the client’s wishes somewhere between 8 to 11 on the “Stimpmeter”. We provide our clients with a free “Stimpmeter” with every green we install.

Can a SofTrak green have contours and undulations like a real putting green?

Absolutely! Our SofTrak synthetic green system uses over 6 pounds per square foot of a specialized rounded quartz silica (RQS 2000). The sheer weight of the quartz silica (over 3 tons for a 1,000 sq.ft. green!) anchors the turf in place, causing it to conform to the slopes and contours that we carefully design and sculpt into the base. Note that smaller greens can only have modest contours or they would fail to provide a realistic practice environment.

How long will it take to install a SofTrak green?

Most greens can be installed in about a week, depending on the amount of site preparation and clean up required. You might be putting and chipping the weekend after we start!

What kind of maintenance is required with a SofTrak Green?

An occasional brooming and rolling is all that’s necessary to maintain its beauty and playability. Keep your green free of debris. Brush to revitalize fibers as needed. Roll with a water-filled lawn roller as desired to increase speed and smoothness. Once the initial installation is completed, just 2 or 3 hours per year is all that is required. We also offer an annual maintenance and tune-up program for our customers.

Can you do lawns or athletic fields?

Yes, we can install similar systems to be used for soccer fields, tennis fields, playgrounds, lawns, and tennis and basketball courts.
What are some of the other benefits of a SofTrak Putting Green?

• No harmful pesticides or fertilizers, and no ground water  contamination.

• Eliminates polluting and noisy maintenance equipment

• Saves time and momey with a practice area in your own backyard. Even if you're only 10 minutes from the course, your own SofTrak surface gives you an extra 20 minutes each day to practice your short game.
